Free-Play Sports

Soccer

  1. All players must wear closed-toed, rubber-soled, athletic shoes. No cleats, sandals, black-soled or street shoes.
  2. No jeans or khaki shorts or pants are permitted.
  3. There will only be one game ball provided by the Lerner Health and Wellness Center.  No other soccer balls can be used.
  4. A regulation team consists of 6 players (one of which will be the goalkeeper). No  more players may be on the field for each team due to safety regulations.
  5. Each game will be 25 minutes in length with a continuous running clock.  Games will be determined by the first team that reaches 5 goals or the team that is ahead when the 25 minutes have expired.  Players are asked to keep score.
  6. The winning team must relinquish the court after two consecutive wins so that others may be allowed to participate.
  7. NO SLIDE TACKLING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! Players are also not allowed to play the ball while on the floor for safety reasons as well.
  8. All fouls and physical play are to be kept at a minimum.  If a person is deemed to be dangerous to another player/patron’s safety they will be asked to leave the court.
  9. Fighting, abusive language, or disorderly conduct will not be tolerated.
  10. Any player who is cut,  bleeding, or gets sick must stop playing. Please contact a Building Manager at the Control Desk for any injury or illness. All play will stop to clean up any bodily fluid spill.
  11. Violation of LHWC rules, policies, or the GW Code of Student Conduct may lead to removal from the facility, loss or suspension of LHWC privileges, and/or other appropriate behavior.

Basketball

  1. Personal belongings, gym bags, backpacks, etc., are not permitted in hallways, lobbies, or activity areas.
  2. Please secure all belongings in a day use or semester rental locker.
  3. Proper athletic footwear required.
  4. All games are played to 9 points. One basket is equal to 1 point.
  5. Spectators are not permitted to interfere in the game in progress.
  6. No dunking, hanging on rims or backboards allowed.
  7. The next game is determined by calling "winners" or "next." The person calling "winners" or "next" must remain on the court.
  8. Players on the losing team may not play in the following game if there are five or more people waiting to play.
  9. If the number of players in the gym amounts to 10 people per basket LHWC reserves the right to stop full court play in favor of half court games.
  10. Play must end if injury or illness occurs. The manager on duty must be notified.
  11. Violation of LHWC rules, policies, or the GW Code of Student Conduct may lead to removal from the facility, loss or suspension of LHWC privileges, and/or other appropriate behavior.
